TOO MUCH OF THIS AND NOT ENOUGH OF THAT

Adultery   Fornication   UncleannessLewdness    Idolatry   Sorcery   HatredContentions   Jealousies   Outbursts of Wrath   Selfish AmbitionsDissensions   Heresies    Envy   Murders   Drunkenness   Revelries    And the like.

There are 18 works of the flesh mentioned in Galatians 5:20-21. Eighteen! All of them are offensive to God and to others. Sadly, these are often character traits of many believers who I see for deliverance. It is also interesting that there are twice as many works of the flesh as there are fruits of the Spirit.

The flesh is weak! It must be yielded to Jesus else the fruit of the Spirit cannot be seen. This is so evident in deliverance ministry. There is a  teaching that says “For much as one wishes to achieve something, the frailties of the human body often make it impossible” Jesus told the weary disciples in Gethsemane, the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

The flesh only wants to please the flesh...even though it often hates the act of pleasing the flesh. I think most believers would prefer not to do the things that displease God. Read the list above, people who do those things hate themselves for doing them, but seem helpless to change. The results are guilt and shame. In contrast there are the fruits of the Spirit. Look at them. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and self-control.

“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

Half as many and twice as life changing. The Fruit of God’s Spirit cannot be on display until the flesh has been defeated. It is defeated only by your consent, your willingness. The flesh will keep you in failure, to my dismay I see people continue to struggle in bad choices and ungodly decisions, only to wonder why God doesn’t bless them more.

If you have ever been around an addict, you know the flesh is weak. You never know when that person might yield to the power of the flesh. As much as the individual would like to be free from the pull, there is not sufficient power in the flesh...and they fall again. You can’t really reason with the person because they already “know.” The “will” power is too weak, what is needed is the power of God’s Holy Spirit! The power of His Spirit can only be realized thru a yielded flesh!

Some things need to be cast out...some things can’t be cast out as long as there is agreement with sin...so, the beginning for the believer is surrender. Demons cannot be cast out and God’s Holy Spirit cannot do His work as long as the flesh rules! When the flesh is yielded to God and His Presence is preferred the benefits are what the Bible calls Fruit of the Spirit.  “Just say NO” were simple and meaningful words from our former First Lady. The Holy Spirit helps you to say no, and reveals to you consequences of obeying the cries of the flesh...however, the Holy Spirit will not say NO for you.

This is where victory comes. You making a Spirit-led choice. Check the list of flesh and spirit fruit. Is there too much of this and not enough of that?

I know the answer to that. I live in this world also. Too much contention not enough understanding. Too much...well you know where I am going. Look at the list of flesh fruit...anger and outbursts of wrath, temper tantrums...unsurrendered flesh is not a pleasant thing. It is the absence of love, joy, peace…

Failed marriages, foolish motives and foul mindsets. Hurt feelings, defensive attitudes and all of the other things that make you feel uncomfortable. They are all the works of the flesh. The flesh must die...daily. The Fruit of the Spirit can only operate where the flesh no longer rules.

Evil spirits gain access thru open doors of the flesh.  In deliverance, the “main thing” is removing legal rights that a demon may have. If there is unconfessed, unaddressed sin in the individuals life, they are not deliverance candidates.

So the need for confession of sins of the flesh is absolutely necessary. Many times folks will ask “how do I know if what I am dealing with is demons or just the flesh?”  That is a good question...a simple answer is when in doubt cast it out. Confess and address.

All Things Are Possible

No greater words were ever spoken then the words that came from the lips of Jesus when He said in Mark 9:23, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes." As you train your mind to believe, defeat tendencies are reversed and things begin to move from the impossible to the possible. How we can we accomplish this? First, become a believer in God, not academically, but believe confidently in Him as your guide. Second, believe in yourself, in others and in life itself. Have a sincere desire to serve God and others, stop doubting, stop thinking negatively. Last, start living by faith, pray daily, and get into the habit of looking for the best.

This type of thinking will cause a turnaround in the flow of your life. Life is always flowing, moving in some direction. Like a magnetic attraction life will begin to move towards you. This does not mean that you will get everything you want., but God will bring into your life those things that are good for you. Being successful does not mean becoming rich, famous, or powerful because many people in those categories are pathetic failures. By success I mean the inner development of a Godly character. It is through the consistent application of constructive thinking you will develop a Godly core.

Action Steps

1. Train your mind to think of the possible. Eliminate negativity.

2. Today expect the best, believe that good will come to you.

3. Think Godly thoughts and by doing so you will build a Godly character.

Compassion International announces the Walk with Compassion

Announcing an up an coming event!

Compassion International announces the Walk with Compassion – Dallas/Ft. Worth!

The Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2016 at:

• Addison Circle Park located in Addison, Texas

Walk with Compassion is Compassion International’s new fundraising walk series designed to address the challenges of vulnerable children that go beyond what monthly sponsorship covers. The money we raise together helps to fund important projects like clean water, mosquito nets, disaster relief, and so much more. While child sponsorship continues to be the backbone of how we are releasing children from poverty, there are many additional needs that can’t be ignored. That is why communities including Dallas/Ft. Worth across the country are choosing to Walk with Compassion.

Leading up to the event, local fundraising teams will challenge one another to raise as much as possible on behalf of children around the world. Fundraisers will reach out to friends and family to share their personal connection to the mission, and to ask for others to support them in reaching their personal fundraising goals.

Fundraising provides a tangible opportunity for parents to teach their children about the importance of caring for “the least of these,” bringing to life the plight of so many children who have given up hope. This fundraising event becomes the ideal platform for introducing Compassion’s mission to your entire community and inviting them to be a part of releasing children from poverty — even if it’s with just a few dollars at a time.

Finally, on the day of the event, we will come together to celebrate the difference we have made through our fundraising, and to learn more about how the dollars we have raised are helping us reach our goal of ending child poverty. An interactive set of stations guided by an online video experience will add to the feeling of accomplishment fundraisers will feel on the day of the walk.

If God be for us!

"If God be for us, who can be against us," Romans 8:31.   Personalize those words so they will apply to you.  Say, "If God be for me," and then bring to your mind a picture of all the things you think are against you.  Now, bring a picture into your mind of God facing your obstacles.  Can they stand against God?  Practice this until it builds an incredible strength in you.  No problem, obstacle, or difficulty needs to defeat you.  Accept that as a fact, hold it confidently and firmly in your mind until it becomes a reality. Remember, this must be done with a humble faith in God and not an inflated faith in your own power.  Everyday fill and refill your mind to overflowing with that kind of faith until your thoughts and thinking has been completely renewed.

Faith, the greatest power in the world, moves mountains and throws obstacles aside. It overrides so-called impossibilities.  It crushes fear. It makes life vital, dynamic and joyful.  The answer to all of your struggles, to all your defeats, and to all your hopes as well, is faith!  Wholehearted, enthusiastic faith in a God who believes in you so much that He sent His Son to perfectly redeem and restore you back to Himself and by the power of His Holy Spirit came to live in you!  "If God be for us, who can be against us."

Action steps:

1). Right this moment bring to mind all the things you think are against you, and begin to see God facing them with you.

2). Memorize the following. "If you have faith..nothing shall be impossible to you," Matthew 17:20. "If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes," Mark. 9:23.

3). Remember, God is for you and nothing shall succeed as your enemy.

Gospel, Salvation, Faith, and Righteous

Gospel: The teachings of Jesus Christ and the story of his life.  Any one of the Biblical books Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.  Romans 1:16 The gospel is powerful.

The gospel is that Jesus died for our sins and rose again as it is written in 1 Corinthians 15:1-7 (KJV)

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

Salvation: The saving of somebody or something from harm, destruction, difficulty, or failure. In the Christian Faith, deliverance from sin or the consequences of sin through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.  Salvation cannot be earned; it is a gift of God Romans 6:23.  Salvation means being rescued from satan’s dominion.

2 Corinthians 7:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Faith: Belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something.  Faith is the entire person in the right relationship with God through the power of the Spirit of God.  Faith puts us in a right relationship with God Romans 5:1.

For it is written in Hebrews 11:1 King James Version (KJV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Righteous: Always behaving according to the teaching of Christ in the Holy Bible where the Christian gets their moral code. Trying to keep the law cannot make us righteous Galatians 3:11-21.  Studying God’s Word helps a person grow in righteousness 2 Timothy.

As it is written in the book of 2 Corinthians 5:21 King James Version (KJV)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
